Your Destination For Quality Antique Shows

Remove From US Mail List

This festive day-long show recreates one of America's first outdoor antiques markets patterned after the Marche aux Puce in Paris, France. Continuing the tradition of the show's founder, Russell Carrell, this show is designed after a market the public depended on for major finds and discoveries during the 1960s, 70s and early 80s. Located on the original site of the Russell Carrell homestead, it is now the property of Jack and Marianne Hollihan, and home to John Spencer's American Gallery.
Over 65 dealers will exhibit at this updated outdoor event. This is not your typical flea market; quality antiques abound: country and formal furniture, folk art, garden accessories and more. Early-buying starts this exciting event off at 9am with dealers ready on the field. General admission follows later in the day from 11am - 4pm. Amenities include free parking and an outdoor food concession.

In January, 2000, American furniture collectors Mary Ann Apicella and Jack Hollihan were celebrating the Millenium around a bonfire in a friend's cow pasture when they heard that Russell Carrell's 18th century house and barn in Salisbury, CT had just come on the market. Aware that the friend and dealer who had helped them form the bulk of their collection of Federal furniture, John Spencer, was looking for a place to relocate, they decided that from a dealer's point of view, 'it didn't get much better than this.' Besides, the house came with THE cow pasture - the site of Carrell's well-known September show, "Antiques In A Cow Pasture." The show which took place the weekend after Labor Day was a local fixture for 58 years. It was the first outdoor antiques market in the United States.

Hosts, Mary Ann Apicella and Jack Hollihan, welcome you to the Antiques in a Cow Pasture Show.

Residents of Sharon, CT, just down the road from Salisbury, Jack and Mary Ann jumped at the chance to keep the property and its 18th century house intact and re-establish a much-missed autumn antiques event in Salisbury. For his part,

John Spencer jumped at the opportunity to locate his top-quality shop of American furniture in a town
that boasted other fine dealers in American furniture. By the beginning of April, 2000, after work had begun to restore the house and bring the barn 'up to code' for use as a shop, plans to start up the show were afoot. By September, when John Spencer's striking blue and gold sign was hung, attention turned to organizing a good show focused on Americana.

  While at the show,
stop by John Spencer's   American Gallery.

Says Apicella, "Jack and I wanted to bring back this local event because we are passionate about Americana, especially American furniture and this is something we want to share."
Under the management of Frank Gaglio and Barn Star Productions, the show continues its tradition of high energy and quality merchandise. While at the show, stop in at John Spencer's American Gallery. The shop is open Friday through Monday, 11am to 5pm, and by appointment during the week.
